The year 2005 saw a renewed interest in retro games by gamers and gaining some popularity within the mainstream gaming audience. Though retro games are developed for hand-held devices, the welcome news is that there were a few developed for consoles as well. Let's see what the top retro games this year were.
Capcom Classics Collection - PS2/XB
Undoubtedly a killer app, the package contains 22 games in total. This includes evergreen classics like 1942, Street Fighter 2, Ghosts and Goblins, Commando and Final Fight.
Covering over ten years of Capcom history, the collection contains hundreds of hours of gameplay both for single or double players while experiencing a plethora of bonus features like remixed soundtracks.
Gunstar Super Heroes - GBA
Treasure - The group that brought Astro Boy to the GBA released an upgraded pseudo-sequel to their Sega Genesis classic.
This new release expands on the original with all-new levels, weapons etc.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - DS
Dawn of Sorrow did not disappoint as it is the best Castlevania since Symphony of the Night. Dawn's exploration is by far the best example of classic gameplay available on the latest handheld gaming devices.
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time - DS
A perennial favourite, these crazy blokes are back in this highly popular hybrid RPG. If you are an RPG fan looking for something a little more laid-back and fun, Partners in Time can't be overlooked.
Lumines - PSP
Not since the original Tetris has there been this much excitement over a puzzle game. Lumines is arguably the best PSP title.
