The Grand Theft Auto game is very well known for the grand controversies it manages to court, time and again, and now a New Zealand gamer is in trouble for modding the GTA game. Way back in 2005, we had Senator Hillary Clinton ask the Federal Trade Commission to take action against the ‘Hot Coffee’ mods in GTA San Andreas which introduced sex in the GTA game and now in the latest GTA controversy, it is the turn of the New Zealand police to cry foul about a GTA mod.

Stacy O’Callaghan was fed up with American cops in the GTA game. So he decided to bring the cops closer to home and replaced the insignia of the American cops with those of the New Zealand cops. And this mod has made the New Zealand cops go so ballistic that they are now considering prosecuting Stacy under a New Zealand law that prevents unauthorized use of police uniform.

For our part, we feel that the New Zealand police are better off fighting crime rather than involving themselves in such trivial controversies. And thankfully, no action has been taken against the gamer, Stacy, till date. Only the future will tell whether the New Zealand police will really press charges or see good sense and laugh this little mod off. We would love to see the latter happening. As an afterthought, gamers too should exercise some restraint instead of shouting off their (possibly illegal) mods from their rooftops.
