A Sony PSP dressed in bronze to make it to Japan

The story has a real touch of irony. The moment I saw the announcement being made, I somehow was taken by the amazing irony of the new color that Sony PSP would dawn in the Japanese market. According to Sony, a special bronze limited edition value pack PSP has been announced for release in Japan on 24th April for 23,800 yen, which is about £115. Now what is so ironic about a matte bronze PSP, you ask? Well, plenty, according to me. For starters the PSP has clearly not been the big winner among gaming consoles, at least to the best of my knowledge. The last holiday season has clearly demonstrated across a wide spectrum of markets that the PSP is not the most preferred among the three giants who are slugging it out for gaming supremacy. The Christmas sales have apparently showed that it is the Wii that heads competition followed by Microsoft’s Xbox 360. That makes the PSP a third and according to many a distant third.

That goes perfectly well with the new color. The PSP automatically gets a Bronze medal in the race for being the best gaming console, at least for now. So it seems Sony has aptly draped it in Bronze. I’m sure Sony didn’t think of it like this and maybe they wanted an oriental ‘bronze’ look for Japan. Either way, it works for me. Along with the new bronze version new peripherals are also unveiled, which include a charging cradle and a USB microphone.
