
Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced the launch of PlayStation Store that enables PSP owners to purchase and download premium content via a PC. PSP owners who wish to PlayStation titles like Crash Bandicoot and Syphon Filter on the go had to hook up their handheld to a PS3.
Users will be now able to do online with a PC. If you don’t have PC also, you will be able to set up a PlayStation Network account and download free content to your handheld like wallpapers and themes. Existing PlayStation Network account holders may use the same log-in and funding options as when accessing store from PS3.
However, initially, the selection of content is sparse; the store will be updated on a regular basis. Sony’s regional publishing operations are determining the strategies the distribution of content. Three PSP games, WipEout Pure, Gangs of London and Syphon Filter: Combat Ops are available for download from $9.99 to $14.99 US. These three games are joined fifteen original PlayStation games and matches the libraries of titles are available through the PlayStation 3 version of the store.
In addition to these games, trailers and demos for PSP software releases are also ready for download and include SOCOM Tactical Strike and Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow. Interestingly, Sony has also added a trailer for Beats, the as-yet unannounced music game that sounds very similar to Harmonix’s iPod game Phase. Currently only Sony-published titles are available as paid downloads however third party published content will be available shortly.
