Nintendo Rev Horsepower

Reg Hardware highlights the IGN scoop that actually can be termed as a leak of the upcoming Nintendo’s Revolution’s chip specifications.

The specifications of the console are:

a) CPU will be 729MHz processor (which is 50 per cent more clock cycles than its predecessor in the GameCube)

b) Graphics chip set to run at 243MHz

c) It will have further 24MB of main memory

d) Just as the GameCube, Revolution will use MoSys’ 1T-SRAM technology (bringing SRAM speeds to the kind of capacities possible only by DRAM)

e) It will contain 512MB of Flash memory

Before this, Nintendo has itself said that the Revolution’s CPU is being custom-made by IBM and is based on the PowerPC architecture just like GameCube’s processor.

Anyway, the new chip is codenamed ‘Broadway’. It not only contains the processing core, but additional DSP functionality, I/O control circuitry and 3MB of texture memory.

So we see that a lot of Nintendo’s secrets have not remained secrets at all. I often wonder whether the Nintendo Secrets was a hyped thing, after all, every other day something new is coming up about the Revolution.
