4players is being threatened to be served with a lawsuit by gaming corporation, Atari. It is alleged that the gaming site obtained an illegal copy of the upcoming title Alone in the Dark. They are suing because 4players received the copy before they would have liked them to and because they purportedly got a pirated version. On the flip side though, 4players claims an insider connection with a retailer provided them with a copy prior to its release. There is also a post at their gaming site stating that Atari is suing and claims that the publishers backed out of an advertising deal with them after the game received a 68/100% rating.
Atari has not commented on the matter as yet. From what gather, Atari is still not in the green for a law suit because they haven’t provided any hard evidence that 4players obtained an illegal copy. Also, many fans speculate the company is doing this to save themselves from its US $23 million dollar debt. At the current rate, the company may just be acquired by a larger firm.
