Three weeks after the Sony-Cathedral Church controversy, the issue has hit the headlines again. Sony has apologized for showing violence (a bloody shootout) inside an Anglican cathedral in Resistance: Fall Of Man. The developer issued a public apology after the church asked Sony to pull back the game from retailer stores.

Church officials expressed a great deal annoyance as the game shows high bloodshed inside the Cathedral and threatened to take a legal action against them.
Here are apologetic words of David Reeves, SCEA chief:
It is clear to us that the connection between the congregation and the cathedral is a deeply personal and spiritual one.
Furthermore, he said that they had never such intentions to intrude into anyone's premises. Reeves assured that Sony would not be repeating the mistake in future games. However, there is an ambiguity whether the sales of title will continue or not.
Even after, sprinkling such humble words, the Dean of the Cathedral was not feeling comfy over the matter, so articulated that they still fear that the other sacred buildings like mosque, temple or other church could be cloned for virtual desecration.
What a pity! Sony apologized for the mischief immediately after the controversy broke-out, and this is the second time when Sony has bowed in front of the Cathedral.

How long will the hurly-burly last?
Manchester Cathedral's new sacred digital guidelines ask developers to respect the sacred places and not to assume their interiors copyright-free. Furthermore, developers should receive permission from faith leaders to portray the building interiors in their animation work.
Earlier, when the controversy surfaced, Sony said that it had received all the permissions necessary for using Cathedral's interior in its game, but the Cathedral refuted.
It seems like it's Cathedral (not Sony) who wants to keep the pot boiling. If we ponder that how far is Cathedral's claim justified, we find it a sheer gaffe in all sense, because the 'virtual desecration' makes no sense. Talking the interior of the Cathedral, there are many cathedrals across Europe and other parts of the world that look quite similar, so to bring them in use (in an animation work) is no desecration at all.
