Mark May 15 on your gaming calendars because on that date you shall get first taste of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition on your PC. Capcom has announced that it will make available a playable demo of the PC version of the game, which is scheduled to hit the shelves this June. The Xbox 360 version of the game has already been a huge hit and sold more than one million units globally. The demo shall be playable with both, DirectX 9 and DirectX 10.

The PC version will be better graphically than the Xbox counterpart ever was. Combine DirectX 10 and Vista, you get the picture, right? It will support a resolution of 2500X1600, although I doubt whether any of the serious gamers would play it continuously on so high a resolution. The DirectX 10 version (only on Vista) will utilize the advanced features of Shader model 4.0 and Geometry Shader only available with DirectX 10.

Okay, the game plot in itself is quite good. 11 action missions (as seen on Xbox) are fairly racy and engaging. You take the role of Wayne Holden, an amnesiac with weird weapons, and battle hostile creatures across huge snowfields, switching between running around on foot or in armed, robotic Vital Suits. Although the game doesn’t depart from the traditional death matches, it succeeds in making them ever more interesting with the addition of Vital Suits and point based scoring systems.
The PC game will be capable of supporting up to 16 players in its multiplayer mode via the internet or LAN connections. The multiplayer mode promises some wonderful game play with lengthy and well-fought battles. The game is compatible with the standard combination of mouse and keyboard but it also supports USB gamepads.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition has been good game on Xbox thus far. It remains to be seen whether it varies the same panache to PC as well. I have no doubt regarding its graphic capabilities, but will it deliver on the gameplay front is difficult to guess. Capcom has been awfully quick in releasing the game on the PC. I hope they don’t mess it up.
