The brand names in real outfit’s world like Adidas and American Apparel Inc. are participating in making the virtual dresses so that the gamers can dress up their avatars as they put on themselves.

The second Life fashion designers fetched a huge revenue of about (real world) $140,466 from the sale of the virtual garments. Linden spokeswoman Catherine Smith says:

Second Life creators can design or manufacture their products and sell or own them. The game has attracted both professional and amateur designers that have led to a thriving fashion scene that includes not just dressmaking but also jewelry, hair and even skin design, as people purchase the elements to create a look for their online alter egos. Selling virtual clothes to real people for their avatars can even be lucrative.

The virtual word has brought a great opportunity to the web designers as well as to the fabric designers. The designers have to pay a rent $5 per month for their stalls in the shopping malls. But one thing that is sick about the dresses is its duplication of their creation and selling the same designs at rebate that really irritates the designers. A renowned Second Life designer was recently accused of stealing designs and was fired from Second Life. Linden says it investigates the design theft, and convict can have their online accounts closed as sentence. Some designers have taken steps to copyright their work to protect their creation from being replicated.
