It happens most of the time, in fact it is quite common. Your hard-drive crashes and then you can’t do much about it than beat your forehead.
Diagnosing early by reading the signs is critical for salvaging your saved games, music, settings etc. If the signs are observed and recognized there is a good chance that the data on the drive can be saved.
Some of the common signs that a HD is going to crash are:
a) Disappearing files/saved games
b) Very long wait while accessing files, or loading saved games and settings.
c) Moving the files freezes the system and becomes inoperable which needs rebooting of the system
d) Frequent freezing of the system on loading or during gameplay that requires reloading
e) Any loud, low, irregular, clicking, or grinding sound which is emitted from the drive
Not only this is relevant for consoles but for PCs as well. The signs are all too similar.
