Weeks after inking an Xbox360 price-cut deal for the US owners, Microsoft has announced a price-drop for European Xbox360 as well. The announcement surfaces weeks after Xbox360 price reduction came into effect in the US on August 8, 2007.
Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox360 will receive a welcoming price-drop from August 24th onwards. Following a €20 price-drop, the Core Version will now retail for €280 ($377), whereas the high-end version with 20GB hard-drive will see a €50 price-cut to bring its cost down to €350 ($472).
Along with much-anticipated price-drop, Xbox360 Elite (120GB hard drive) will be coming to the European retailer stores. Following confession of Microsoft for retailing of defective Xbox360s, the company had to see a nosedive in Xbox360 sales, but the latest announcement tends to give a wee boost to hardware sales to overcome a prolonged financial slump.
By means of bringing down prices of all Xbox360 SKUs in row, Microsoft wants to bring the underdog console back in competition. In present scenario, Nintendo’s Wii is leading next-gen consoles market as in last nine months it has managed to sell more than 10 million units worldwide.
Wii costs just $249, which is lowest of all three next-gen consoles available in market, hence seems working like a big advantage for Wii and helping in fast dispersion of the console in partially saturated market.
Perhaps, it’s not possible for any developer to develop a next-gen console owning HD graphics, which costs around $250 or so, but slashing down price of existing consoles to some extent is a nice alternative to keep pace with those having low price.
