EA dumps DRM for the greater good

Electronic Arts’ decision of not using Digital Rights Management (the infamous DRM) for Sims 3 has surprised gamers and bloggers all around the globe. Sims 3 is one the biggest and most awaited game releases of 2009 and EA’s decision of dumping DRM will make it an even more attractive offer. This comes after their earlier release of Spore was heavily criticized for limiting the number of installs in order to prevent piracy.

EA’s move is pretty intelligent as these stupid limitations just make it difficult for genuine user. EA’s Sims 3 will not require any online authentication and will rely only on CD-key copy protection. Hopefully they follow this trend and their other releases will also be made hassle free. I think it’s about time other companies realize that their ways of stopping piracy are hard on only genuine users; achieving precious little against piracy.

Third edition of the life simulator will be released on 2nd June of this year.
