The second life in virtual world is all set to see its first hotel in the virtual land with Starwood Hotels & Resorts, new Aloft Hotel. Starwood properties will be launching brick-and-mortar version of the hotel in September, before the chain of hotels opens the real version somewhere in 2008. The island is a 16-acre square of beachfront property which includes a marina and a bridge, providing residents in the second life numerous ways to approach the hotel.

Starwood creators are being very protective of their new hotel and are hoping to rope-in a lively bunch of avatars who like to mingle in the lobby and give feedback about the hotel. The luxury chain of resorts will be restraining entry on the island to a handful of people who can watch the construction unfold by standing on the border of a nearby island called Argali. Cnet reports, ‘So far, just the outer shell of the hotel is finished which is created by 3D-design shop, The Electric Sheep Company based on a single exterior rendering provided by Starwood.’
