Postal stamps on video games. Wow, its going going not only with kids but it seems the France government is also finding gaming worth for postal stamps. La Poste, The French Postal Service has unveiled a special series of postal stamps on The Sims, which is regarded as one of the ten most entertainment products in France.
The characters and games featured on the stamps are Nintendo character Legend of Zelda’s Link (in Twilight Princess guise), Nintendo’s Mario, Namco’s Pac-Man, Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia and Rayman, Core Design/Eidos’ Tomb Raider lead Lara Croft, Insomniac and Vivendi’s Spyro the Dragon, Nintendo’s Donkey Kong (the modern version, rather than the classic adversary), and two Sims from Maxis and Electronic Arts’ The Sims.
The set of ten stamps are priced 2.65 euro collectively and is available at French post office website
Creative and production people from gaming industry is pleasantly surprised by this move from French Government.
Up until now, if someone tried to convince me that I’d be working on a game which would appear on foreign postage - I probably would have laughed. Because the thought of a state body celebrating games in this manner is... so foreign to me, itself. How sad that in its country of origin, the press and legislature have focused so much energy on condeming what they dislike instead of promoting what they’d prefer to see more of in the medium.
