Here is some big financial news from the gaming world and if all works well, this could have some serious ramifications which would affect all those who love to play away their time. Activision and Blizzard, two of the big names in gaming market in the US and South-East Asia respectively, have decided to merge in what is claimed to be 'the world's most profitable games business'. The merger is said to be worth a good $18.8bn and is considered as a giant step towards achieving some kind of supremacy in the gaming world.

US-based Activision made games such as the Tony Hawk series and Guitar Hero. The company has a huge market in the US and Europe and has made its presence felt with its games featuring on Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. It also has some franchise games such as the Spider Man series and the X-men, which make it a perennial favorite in the market. Blizzard on the other hand has its strong holds in South-East Asia and boasts of games such as Warcraft, which is the global market leader of what are known as massively multi-player online role-playing games, or MMORPGs.
With their varying markets and strongholds, the alliance is hoping to take over a large chunk of the share in profits in the gaming industry. The merger sees Activision invest $1bn while Blizzard would invest $2bn. The merged business will be called Activision Blizzard and its chief executive will be Activision's current CEO Bobby Kotick. Vivendi will be the biggest shareholder in the group as it has invested more in the merger. With the gaming industry growing rapidly and the huge market it has, the merger hopefully would be very successful.
