Gaming now part of university syllabus

When the movies were included in the universities as a field of study, many people were aghast, especially the ones that were puritans. Eventually, studying and analyzing movies came to be called as film studies and it became a research level subject. Now, universities all over are introducing a module on gaming (yes, you read it right) in media courses. And why shouldn’t they, when gaming derives from popular culture and influences the younger generations and the old as well?! Games like Doom, The Sins, etc are already an established part of the media syllabus. However, it has also encouraged many to create games with themes that have social relevance like poverty, globalization, alcoholism, mental illness etc. Gaming has also been included as a part of school education, helping children learn spellings etc. This might be a step in the right direction, as media courses need to be updated more often than other subjects.
