Peter Moore - VP Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB), has resigned from the company. Earlier, Microsoft announced that Moore is no more a part of their corporate. His ‘personal reasons’ have forced him to leave the organization, and move back to his native place, San Francisco, California.
Moore had been serving Microsoft since 2003. Former EA head Don Mattrick, who joined Microsoft in February as a ’strategy adviser’, will replace him. Mattrick will assume his new role at Microsoft on July 30. After saying goodbye to the software giant, Moore has decided to work with EA as President of ‘Sports Label’ and will occupy the post in September.
Commenting on Moore’s resignation, Robbie Bach, president of Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft, said that the void that has been created after a sudden departure of Moore could never be filled, but they are happy to have Don Mattrick - one of the industry’s most talented and passionate veterans on board, who will certainly push the chariot to the victory gate.
Moore has served Microsoft for more than four years and given a new direction to its growing business. A successful Xbox360 launch across the world, 11.6 million Xbox360 sales figures, origin of Xbox Live, connectivity of over 7 million gamers through the Internet, etc, are few far fetching gifts from Moore that Microsoft can never forget.
For his new post, Moore will be receiving an annual salary of $550,000 (plus a target bonus percentage of 75% of annual base salary), one-time bonus of $1.5 million, the option to purchase 350,000 shares of company stock and relocation-related expenses of $330,000...huh!
Why did Moore leave Microsoft? Was it salary issue or Microsoft’s blemishing image after ‘Xbox360 flaw scandal’ that forced him to leave the origination? However, it’s very difficult to utter anything, but the fact that is visible is he is being paid highly at EA.
Apart from this, EA ‘Sports Label’ is the strongest brand in the games business with blockbuster franchises like Madden NFL, NBA Live, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, FIFA Soccer, NASCAR, and others and with Moore’s management skills, passion, creativity and, dedication to work, EA Sports is anticipating to become even stronger in the coming years. EA has planned to expand the Sports Label with new content, new platforms, new services, and engrossing online add-ons. Thus, EA’s ‘Sports Label’ fits well with Moore’s sporty look.
In my opinion, Moore has taken a right step. Nevertheless, would new agglomeration be fruitful to both (Microsoft and EA) the companies? The chances are immense, because EA is an invincible software developer, and Microsoft has good terms with the company, so we can expect more action-packed games on the Xbox360.
