If a game is pitted to be a record breaker from all aspects this year, it has to be well and truly the fourth edition of the Grand Theft Auto. GTA always derives heavy criticism but this time around the popularity is purely soaring on a more positive note. It is expected that GTA IV would even brush aside the opening week sales record of Halo III by generating revenue of $400 million. Many acclaimers have started hailing it as the game of the year.
The popularity of the game can be assessed by the fact that in the UK alone, 41 shops put the game up on sale at midnight and same was the case in the streets across the USA. Analysts believe that the GTA would manage to sell 6 million copies within the first week but the company officials are confident enough to even surpass that limit. Take Two’s stance of not amalgamating with EA games before the release of the GTA IV can now be justified as they are in a better stance to hit a higher bid and deservedly so.
