Come March next year and Japanese players will be able to sit down and play Valve’s FPS Half-Life 2 in the arcades. Taito is currently working on an adaptation titles Half-Life 2: Survivor.
Running on its Type-X unit (actually an arcade machine build with PC parts), players will take seat, replace the mouse with joysticks and use foot-pedals to control the action, like several other popular shooters in arcade venues.
This unit runs on WinXP, and will run at 1360 X 768 resolution on a 32 inch LCD screen. It will also have 5.1 Dolby surround sound.
Half-Life 2: Survivor will feature both single and multiplayer as it is network enabled. This will enable you to play deathmatch or coop with people in different arcades halls. You will be able to store you player data on a smart card in single player mode.
However, gamers from US are going to be deprived from enjoying playing HL2 because arcade gaming has faded away almost completely. There remain some countries where old pleasures such as gaming in crowded arcades can still be found.
