It's game all the way. HMV has opened its first gaming zone at its flagship Edinburgh store that provides gamers 27 Xbox 360 consoles with full Xbox Live connectivity, Samsung HD TV screens and preview of latest Xbox 360 titles. The customers can play these games for £3 an hour or £5 for three hours.

The HMV gaming zone allows the gamers to play the games on their own or with up to 15 other players. They can also play these games online without sitting before the gaming zone. Some of notable games available in the HMV gaming zone are Skate, Stuntman: Ignition, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 and Ratatouille.
The 2,000 square foot gaming zone will also organize regular events and tournaments and award the winners. Some of the forthcoming events are Project Gotham Racing 4 and a Guitar Hero 3 'rock-off'.
For HMV, the gaming zone is an exciting concept, the success of which largely depends upon the customers' adoptability. As Xboxer has pointed out one of the disheartening feature of the gaming zone is that it does not allow chatting while you are playing an online game. It has mixed impacts. No doubt, the gaming zone will become a silent zone free from verbal war or abuse, but the customers may be deprived from sportsman spirit just due to lack of communication.
Meanwhile, HMV has acknowledged that games are now an integral part of their business. They will expand the Gaming zone into other stores in the country.
