Goddess Kali in video game

The Indian warrior-goddess Kali with multiple limbs where each hand has a different weapon makes a perfect videogame character. So are many gods and goddesses in the Hindu mythology. Notwithstanding this, videogame developers, who are mostly westerners and Japanese have ignored them; mainly due to ignorance.

This is however set to change next year. Kali will be coming to game consoles, PCs, and mobile phones around the world. A Mumbai-based company called Indiagames is currently working the goddess into the first original, Indian-themed game for global gamers.

Kali is appearing in the forthcoming Emperor Ashoka that recreates battles from the life of the legendary Indian king who lived in the third century B.C. The game will allow players to engage in historic battles based in ancient temples and other antique environments. In addition to Kali there are other mythical creatures like gargoyle-like interpretations of the voluptuous female statues that adorn sacred buildings in India, who come alive and fight. Indiagames CEO Gondal says;

We wanted to have an edge; a storyline that hasn't been seen before.
Right on the point! When I played the Age of Kings first time, I thought why there were no campaigns by Indian kings and dynasties like the great Mughal Dynasty that ruled India for over 300 years? It is just one example of scores of great rulers who not only fought bloody battles but built many magnificent buildings that dots the length and breadth of the country. Besides, the Indian mythological stories are perhaps the richest and diverse in the whole world.
