IBM developing 65nm Cell chips for PS3: IBM helping Sony reduce PS3 cost/Power-consumption

PS3 cost reduction is the burning question for Sony. Sony is trying to chop down the price of its next-gen console PS3 for such long but has failed to make that. After so many speculations, I think Sony has finally succeeded in getting to the cast-iron way out as it receives a help hand from IT giant IBM as company has officially that it has officially started the development of 65nm Cell chips for PS3 consoles.

The chip is supposed not only to reduce the production cost of PS3 but will also reduce the power consumption of PS3 consoles as another biggest failure (after its hefty price thing) of the PS3 is its too much power intake.

This is obvious as the smaller CPUs will use lesser power to run the system and of course production cost.

But, as I previously discussed that Sony is offering PS3 to the European gamers at the cost of features. Sony has already planned to replace the existing chips with new less expensive chips that will only improve PS2 graphics instead of handling both graphics as well as computing unlike existing chips.

Now, with removal of the Emotion Engine, European gamers will be buying a compromised-box instead of features packed PS3. After so may bargains, how much price drop is Sony offering per console? 100$ or $150? That's completely an unfair deal......!
