IBM would be the first company to horde private regions of the virtual world-Second Life making them perfectly accessible through a Web browser. The $7 billion a year virtual world video game industry may be too large for IBM to ignore. Hence, Second Life’s parent company, Linden Lab, would offer software and services to corporate customers who aim at teleconferencing sort of stuff. The company could discuss proprietary information on computer servers owned by another company. It came to an agreement with Linden Lab last year and with more than 6,000 IBM employees has fashioned the Second Life characters called avatars. Second Life owns some half-dozen islands and most of them are private, with restricted right of entry for the public. It is believed that IBM will let its own customers enter the privately hosted regions. So, finally, Second Life is due to open new horizons of the virtual world by means of its mega project.
