
The upcoming PS3 that is ready for release next month will be able to run Linux. Terra Soft has officially announced that it is going to will employ its Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 to PS3. The new incorporation will be able to turn the gaming console into a fully-functioning computer. The company informed that PS3 with Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 will be available in next month.
The complete product will come out in installations. Initially the company will pop out YDL.net service that will make users to download the OS to their computer and burn a bootable disc for installation on the PlayStation 3, after two weeks ready-made installation discs and lastly it will come out as a complete launch.
The OS will comprise of kernel 2.6.16, gcc 3.4.4 and glibc 2.4, Cell SDK 1.1, OpenOffice.org 2.0.2, FireFox 1.5.0 and Thunderbird 1.5.0 and other accessories like music play back, video, internet, etc, etc.
