F. Calendini has come up with a homebrew, Lonewolf DS, a video gamebook based on the adventure books from the 80’s. This project will instruct the beginners to program on the Nintendo DS. The Gamebooks were novels, highly successful during 80’s, that allowed the readers to shuffle between the sections in an interactive and interesting way. Inspired by the philosophy of letting consoles handle the rules related to combats and stats, the player without getting bothered with the gameplay element can immerse himself in the story. Calendini has used an already available paper Gamebook and the work from the Aon project to adapt it to the DS. The Gamebook allows the booklovers to be in charge of the story through branching storyline options, character customization (e.g. dexterity, disciplines), and supplementary RPG-inspired elements.
As for now, only the first volume of the series ‘Flight From The Dark’ is available. Depending on the interest shown by the people, other volumes will follow soon. LoneWolf DS: Flight From The Dark looks to be a very sophisticated and inclusive release. The official site and screenshots show the care taken by the Project Aon to create the first volume. So, check it out and experience the delight.
