Networking behemoth Lucent Technologies is suing Microsoft alleging that it breached a patent Lucent holds. Lucent, which is currently in the process of merging with Alcatel are suing Microsoft over the patent - 'Adaptive Coding and Decoding of Frames and Fields of Video'.
Lucent claims that Microsoft violated the conditions of the patent. It says,
Microsoft has infringed this patent by releasing the Xbox 360 console, which has MPEG2 technology.
We must remember that way back in 2003, the Wall Street Journal reported that Microsoft were suing Lucent over a number of patents they hold. Microsoft said that this was necessary to - how they paraphrased it - 'to prevent Lucent from continued threats on this matter.'
