The beauty of gaming lies in getting away…with anything. You rough people up, crash cars, even slide cheats in to hit balls long, and there’s nothing anybody can really do. Detractors would have us believe that this leads to anarchy and fearlessness even in real life. It is therefore a no-brainer to guess the plot of a game that’s supposedly being made by a judge, well, a TV judge at any rate.

Mathis “Detroit” Street Judge is the name of the game that’s supposedly bringing together two minds hell-bent on teaching gamers some manners. TV Judge Greg Mathis and filmmaker Matty Rich are the masterminds behind this title – which is supposed to be released for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 – and Mathis describes it (with reference to GTA) as:

The main difference between our game and Grand Theft Auto is that players will have to deal with the justice system and consequences for their actions. When you go to prison, you gain credibility when you come back on the streets. On the other hand, when you go to prison you can also be raped. So take your chances. We may see young people who make the wrong choice and go to prison and are assaulted repeatedly (in this game).

Ah, prison rape (as contrasted with Prison Break) is on the cards for incompetent gamers. Mathis “Detroit” Street Judge is supposed to be a third-person shooter set in an open world, which in this instance means the rough streets of Detroit. Players take on the mantle of an ex-con, La-Ron Washington. With two strikes against him, La-Ron is framed for the murder of a Detroit crime boss. Players have to do a tightrope of balancing his quest to clear up his name with his previous two warnings. Screw your chance and you are sure to do the time. Wonder when this title’s coming?
