It seems like Sony’s surging sales figures after $100 price-cut for the 60GB PS3 has spoiled Microsoft’s flavor, and hence the company is contemplating a price-drop for the Xbox360. There is no official confirmation yet, however, The Hollywood Reporter states that a $50 price-drop is coming to the Xbox360 on August 8th.
According to the report, there are more than one reason for bringing a price-drop in the month of August -
1. August is traditionally one of the slowest months of the year when vending shows deep sluggishness. So, perhaps, Microsoft might want to bring a new ‘trick’ into action and get rid of the slump.
2. Big Microsoft exclusives like Bioshock, Madden series, and Blue Dragon are also debuting in August, hence, could be a tactic to catalyze both hardware as well as software sales.
Currently, the premium console sells for $399.99, after owning a $50 price-drop, the system will sell for $349.99 i.e. just $50 higher than the core system that costs $299.99 so far.
Although, Microsoft has not commented yet on the rumor, but if speculation turns out to be true, the Xbox360 will be the second next-gen console (after PS3) to see a price drop. Microsoft claims that no other system is offering all the games people want to play this holiday at a better price than Xbox360 does, so software giant looks firm on the price-cut issue.
Needless to say, Microsoft’s acknowledgement that all consoles sold till date are faulty has resulted in a heavy loss for the developer and therefore, it wants to encash by dropping prices and ascend the plunging sales figures.
