Parsons School for Design hosted a 24-hour competition to create new games for mobile phones where participants impressed the judges by their talent and fast action.
Actually, the fact is that despite the high popularity of mobiles in America, the number of mobile gamers is poor. Despite the rise in number of titles, the number of gamers did not rise as expected. So, the developers decided that to raise the demand for mobile games, they must improve the quality and thus the inspiration for the competition named Mobile Game Mosh sprouted.
Ten teams of undergrad and graduate students from seven New York schools programmed through the night for the chance to be recognized as makers of Top Overall Game and Most Innovative Game. They also had the opportunity to show off their creativity to a panel of judges that included Bruno Bonnell, CEO and Chief Creative Officer, Atari and Margaret Wallace, CEO, San Francisco casual-game developer Skunk Studios.
At the award ceremony on Mar 13, an impressed Bonnell said,
The only reason that (Atari) is involved in the competition is to show our commitment both education and originality. The winning titles developed by the students are ready to be published tomorrow. They don't even need polishing. I was shocked by the students' talent.
Three cheers to them!
