I just found this cool NES Zapper mod. What do you have to say about this? I really don't know what the utility would be, but then it sure looks 'innovative'.
If you think that it has something to do with setting the trigger of the controller with a timer in the clock, I guess, you are thinking along my lines.
Whatever the case is, there are some crazy ideas flowing around.
