Everyone’s favourite sailor man ‘Popeye‘ will soon make an appearance on mobile phones. ‘Strong to the finich’ Popeye, his sweetheart Olive, his foes Bluto, Sea Hag, et al. and oh yes a lot of spinach will feature among others in this all-new advanced mobile game. 
The game is scheduled to debut in North America during Fall 2007.
The announcement was made a couple of days back by mobile phone entertainment ‘gurus’ Namco Networks together with Popeye comic distributor King Features. The two companies will be working together on bringing out the game. Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Namco Networks, Scott Rubin had this to say:
Popeye is a mass-market icon that has been entertaining adults and kids alike for decades. We are excited to add Popeye to our lineup of top-selling arcade classic mobile games, which includes PAC-MAN, Ms. PAC-MAN, Galaga, Dig Dug and others.

With a strong, clearly defined personality, Popeye has enjoyed universal popularity. We believe that combining Popeye, a classic icon, with Namco’s proven record for developing innovative and fun mobile games will result in a mobile game enjoyed by consumers of all ages.
Since he first made his debut as early as 1929, this endearing spinach-munching hero has been in comic strips and cartoons, and there is already a videogame featuring him and his adventures on the Nintendo Platform. Well everyone, once the mobile version is out, gobble up spinach, work up your forearms and get into the Popeye act and punch the daylights out of Bluto.
