DC Universe Online is a brand new initiative from Sony Online Entertainment that will allow comic book fans to “invent” their own superheroes that could potentially defeat even Superman. Set to premiere at a major US comic convention next week, the videogame will enable players to play as any DC super characters or design a supernaturally powerful character of their own that can pursue paths of both good and evil. Superhero looks or skills will be subjected to copyrights and trademarks of established comic book characters with each unique player’s journey being shaped by choices.
The new superheroes will get a chance to have showdowns with Superman or Batman with any player opting to oppose Superman automatically falling in league with the superhero’s notorious arch rival Lex Luthor.
Online multi-player aspects of the game will let friends play together in superhero teams and the feedback from comic book fans playing the game will lead to a limited “beta” testing online before the game can be made available to gamers worldwide.
