firmware update wiiThose who switched on their Wiis this morning would have observed a firmware update released by Nintendo providing much-needed upgrades to Wii and Wii Shop Channel. With the help of revamped Wii Shop Channel interface, users will require to select ‘Wii System Update’ in the console’s settings to reap benefits of new updates, which include following renewals:

Wii control panel:

• Digital Clock added to the Wii Menu right under the channel bar

• Forecast Channel now displays the user’s current weather condition directly in the Wii Menu’s Forecast Channel box

• News Channel can now show two scrolling headlines at a time in the Wii Menu, three when users click on the button

• Users will be receiving “Today’s Accomplishments” message on Wii’s Message Board in a white envelope, while other messages in a yellow envelope

• Address Book entries can now be moved around using A+B, but only to empty spaces

• Message Board no more shows calendar

• Scrolling messages in the Message Board will sound a bit different now

Wii Shop Channel mods:

• New opening screen with 4 recommended titles and their cost in Wii-points

• Titles You have downloaded automatically move to the main Shop menu

• Advanced browsing methods, such as: popular; genre; publisher; system; game title (partial names work); newest additions and category

• Popular titles include launch/older games, based on entire catalogue instead of recent updates

Users will need an Internet connection in order to perform the Wii System update, which will take a few minutes to complete.

So, next time when you turn on your console to play EA’s latest rhythmic game Boogie on your Wii console, it will show a system update with presenting a warning before starting downloading the update - ‘if your Wii console has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperability of your console’.
