Elliot Ortiz has published some photos of his Nintendo project called the Nintendo Dragon. The idea behind the innovative styles is of emulation of ‘popular design toys that go well with a media and entertainment room’s decor. He wanted this new design to be the centre piece of attention in any room. As you can see in the 3D generated image above, the system is pink and uniquely shaped with matching speakers and remote. All of the units have these little animal-shaped feet which do represent a dragon, from an artistic point of view.

Above is a foam full scale model of the unit. Below is the original compilation of artwork which inspired Mr. Ortiz to create this new and innovate game system design.

My take on this is that, the ideas behind creating newly design systems is always a positive. Without artists like these, big companies would never really be able to go ‘outside the box’, from a design front, and come up with some of the new system designs today. For example, the new Xbox 360 doesn’t conform to the norm of a regular squarish system anymore. Concept art is a must in society to keep design innovation flourishing, without it, this world would be a boring place.
