I think it's just an April Fool's joke but sounds pretty well.

The tidbit says that Nintendo is brining HD graphics to its next-gen console Wii. As the Wii in HD is a rumor that raised its head months ago and used to be mine favorite rumor and honestly waiting for its confirmation.

An article over gamersreports.com claims that they have received a copy of Press Release from Nintendo saying about firmware update of Wii to 720p. The site further describes that you will need component cables for 720p graphics.

Here is the press-release:

Nintendo Of America is proud to announce our latest firmware update for Nintendo Wii will receive a 720p resolution upgrade via component cables. The number 720 stands for 720 lines of vertical display resolution, while the letter p stands for progressive scan or non-interlaced. When broadcast at 60 frames per second, 720p features the highest temporal (motion) resolution possible under the ATSC standard.

After going through the PR, it seems nothing more than a silly April Fool's joke as the PR is trying to educate you what does 720 and p mean?
