A speculation is hanging around explaining the indefinite delay of Maxis’ life simulation title Spore. The latest issue of Game Informer that reports that the publisher, EA has postponed the release of Spore for an undefined time, maybe 2009. Previously, the game was slated for 2008 release but has received a delay.

As the publisher has released a couple of (prelaunch) videos that show the epic gameplay and different stages of development that Spore has undergone. The magazine doesn’t mentions the reason for delay but in my opinion, there could be a console version underway, for sure that is hampering its prompt launch. Major overhaul could be another reason.
Spore is the very first in Maxis’ life simulation series that is currently undergoing some development that allows the player to create his own creature & build a colony. Will Wright is man behind the game who sets the game in the primordial ooze, allowing you create a character from DNA that will grow, survive, and assist as it evolves from a single-celled organism to a fully-formed member of an establishing species. As it’s a life simulation, the life runs pretty similar to that on earth, where more and more creatures reside in and evolution forms the future, your species will join herds, clans, even civilizations. Troubles start escalating as the creatures of the planet grow. You are supposed to defend the annihilating species, from the planetary or interstellar level, while also going online with your friends.

However, this is just a speculation aired by mag, but it seems like the game we have been pining to play on our PCs isn't coming anytime soon.
