Great news for PlayStation gamers. To start with, Sony Corporation slashed the cost of its PlayStation 3 game console in the U.S. and announced a more widely anticipated news by further offering to cut prices for the newer models that will pull in before the festival and holiday shopping season.
The earlier cost of $599 from the top line PS model now costs only $499 thus also eliminating the earlier lower end 60 gigabyte model that was being sold for the same cost of $499. The overall reaction of the huge slash by Sony Corp. has been quite positive. This new model is an 80 gigabyte hard drive.
The PlayStation 3 has been trailing the Nintendo and Microsoft both in U.S. sales, and the Wii has especially been a massive success for Nintendo, with more than 9 million units shipped while Sony has sold 5 million PlayStation 3s since they went on sale.
Sony’s new low-end model with a 40-gigabyte drive will go on sale on November 2 for $399.
Since Sony has by now announced its launch for Japan and Europe, the launch of the 40-gigabyte model in the US is expected soon.
It definitely narrows down the price gap with contending game consoles, but the PlayStation is still the most expensive. As Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 costs $350 and Nintendo’s Wii costs only $250.
The competition with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii in the U.S. has been quite a chase by the PlayStation models so far and by the looks of it, it is only going to get better for the gamers.
Also in lieu of the newer games and higher requirements brought about by the games launched for the PS3, it has also been said that the games for PS3 will not be compatible with PS2 models like it used to be.
So till we hear anything more on PS3 front, let’s gear ourselves up for the price slashing game in the arena and get going for more.
