The new service is coming on the day when Halo 2 is rolling out for Windows Vista (game was debuted on Xbox, about two years back). With this, Microsoft has another coinciding FPS title launch in June for both Xbox360 as well as Vista; Shadowrun that will be credited as the very first game to support interoperable online play between Xbox360 and Vista users.

What Peter Moore (Boss; Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment) has to say?

The benefit of expanding Live to Games for Windows titles is twofold. We're bringing together two communities that share a passion for playing online games, and we're enhancing the online experience for PC gamers who have long desired seamless game and voice connectivity.

Presently Microsoft offers two subscription levels for their Live service:

1. Silver membership: A charge free membership that offers players a unique gamer identity, single player achievements, text and VOIP chat, and PC-only multiplayer gameplay.

2. Gold membership: A membership that players acquire by paying a yearly $50 fee for enjoying all the privileges of Silver membership with the added benefits of online play, online achievements, matchmaking, and cross-platform gameplay whether on Xbox360, PC, or both.

As you know currently Microsoft has a huge Live audience of 6 million users, and with the expanding its online service to PC platform, Microsoft wants to get its hold on PC gamers/owners as well.
