Pelican recalls its PSP battery chargers

In an unprecedented move, Pelican has recalled thousands of the PSP's Pelican Power Brick battery chargers due to potential overheating hazards.

The third-party accessory gets so hot that it causes the battery's plastic to melt which in turn and poses a potential fire threat. The Power Brick is comprises two lithium-ion batteries mounted on plastic housing and is connected via circuit board.

These chargers were available at US retail shops from April last year till last month for 20 dollars. In between there had been over 140 reports of overheating in which one resulted in fire. However, since there were no injuries, there were no lawsuits against Pelican. However, the luck wouldn't have run all the time so Pelican got wise before it was too late!
