Piracy destroying PC gaming says Crytek

Videogame piracy reached an epidemic level long-time back but since the likes of PS consoles weren’t as popular as PC games, the manufacturers continued to develop products. The stance has changed from thereon and now the PC game developers choose the games to be released very carefully. For one, there is a lot of competition and two, piracy is a major killer of the profit share. The plight of Crytek with relevance to the Crysis, which is the worst affected by the piracy margin is a good example. Crytek president Cevat Terli in a recent interview quipped:

We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.

This pretty well sums up for us the reason why most game developers are choosing to go console only, bereaving the PC gamers. Which leaves us with no option but to spend more. It is we who propagate piracy in some way or the other and thus we are now bound to bear the blunt on loosing out on our favourite PC games.
