After dragging great franchises like ‘Grand Theft Auto’ and ‘The Warriors’, primarily meant for consoles, to Sony’s portable platform PSP, it looks like handy portals fail to tempt Rockstar Leeds any longer. In an interview with Develop, Studio head Gordon Hall at Rockstar Leeds has informed that they are working on original IPs for the ‘next gen’.
Gordon Hall said:
We’re going to be branching out further into next-gen - we’ve done original work on an existing franchise, but now we want to work on new IPs, and are looking at what we can do on Xbox360 and PS3.
Until now, the developer used to work on previous projects like GTA, Midnight Club, The Warriors, etc, but now with stepping away from mainstream path, the Studio boss wants to test competence of his committed team by giving origin to empirically a new IP within next 18 months to come.
However, to keep searching for new possibilities is a good sign for both developers as well as gamers, but those who had been anticipating a new outing in the portable edition of GTA for so long, would surely be deriving some antipathetic strokes against Rockstar.
Certainly, with emergence of new entity, we can hope some more incredible and adult orientated titles out of Rockstar Leeds rolling down onto more powerful (next-gen) platforms.
