Professional gamer makes over $1 million a year

Carrying on with our unintentional campaign in favour of gaming where we had dug for Henry Jenkins for saying how gaming can help us to become good workers and better people for the society; we now give you one more reason to keep hooked to gaming.

Reason? If you take gaming as seriously as your dad wants you to take your studies or sports, chances are that you would beat your sibling in earnings who listened to your dad and went on to make a living being an academic.

This is what career gamers like Jonathan 'Fatal1ty' Wendel, 24, and Sander 'fnatic.Vo0' Kaasjager, 20, along with hundreds of others have shown.

Jonathan, like the 31 other competitors who qualified for the World Tour Grand Finals, makes money by playing video games. However, Jonathan plays full time unlike most of the other gamers pursuing studies etc and has become a superstar in the computer gaming community that he has turned into a business.

Now have a look at his earnings. This year alone Jonathan has earned about $600,000 in licensing fees plus another $231,000 in tournament winnings making a huge total of $831,000!! His licensor Auravision and him spent $50,000 helping other gamers attend gaming events around the globe. This he says is to make gaming a viable and sustainable business.

Mark Walden, marketing and licensing director for Auravision says;

Johnathan is the cyber-statesmen and ambassador of gaming. He represents the name and face of the emerging digital lifestyle.
Jonathan currently has his hands full. He is into endorsement deals for a motherboard and a soundcard, selling his own branded mouse pads and also working on a book deal. *phew*

Mark also says that he hopes to have Jonathan endorsing a complete line of computer parts in the future.

Sounds really hot, isn't it?
