PS3 patch: Firmware 1.90 to upscale your old console

Sony has apparently started reaping fruits after it confirmed a price-drop for the PS3. As per some big retailers, PS3's prevailing sales have gone up by 135%. To keep the pot boiling, Sony has immediately played another trick by offering - firmware 1.90 which is available for download on your next-gen console across the world.

'Custom backgrounds' is one of the most frequently requested features for the PS3 that the latest firmware update comes with. Other added features are ability to arrange game titles in the XMB and ability to change scaling and video options while playing a game on system.

Here's a quick rundown of what the update has to offer:

Ability to rearrange games on the XMB

Option menu now includes "eject disk"

Press triangle to eject games/CDs/movies in the XMB

XMB backgrounds

Change the folder classification

Emoticons

Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz

Force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI

Change PS3 video settings in-game

"Bit Mapping" in the "Music Setting"

Save AVCHD type animations from a Memory Stick

Change settings like upscaling while playing PS and PS2 games

Add bookmarks

Web browser security function in the browser's tool section

Avatar moves during audiovisual chat
