PS3 vs. Xbox 360: Want to wait for PS3? Here are 10 reasons why you should even if you don't agree with all of them (like us)!

If you are still waiting in the queue for your Xbox 360, think again if that is worth all the trouble and effort for a machine that might not be as good as the one coming up from Sony's stable in 6-7 months time. It may well prove to be that by the time you finally get your hands on the Xbox 360, the launch date of Sony's PlayStation 3 would be announced.

IGN has listed 10 reasons why you should rather wait than rush for an Xbox 360. Here they are listed below:

10. Xbox 360 doesn't have Killer App. We have mentioned about this in our blog before citing 5 reasons why Xbox 360 may bomb. Xbox 360 doesn't have previous hits as Mario, Halo or Soul Calibur. ING says; 'with the advent of PS3, Microsoft may have wished it more heavily emphasized one game its new console could forever be known for. This is because PS3 has the Metal Gear potential, Warhawk, Tekken, I-8, Gran Turismo, Killzone, and a dozen other high profile games that may hit day one to put a smiling face to the splendid PlayStation name.'

9. Dual-Screen and 1080p Support. Dual-screen support gives you 3D potential. Games like Killzone and F1 will give you a panoramic visual experience. Then there are fighter games. With 3D option available, why go for something that doesn't have it like the Xbox 360? 1080p support means gamers won't be limited to interlaced images and would support 1080p progressive. It also means that a few years down the line when great display technology is available, PS3 would still support it and return you the value of your money that you might choose to put in buying the future display gadgets. PS3 won't be rendered obsolete even then!

8. Hefty Expandability/Connectivity Options. PS3 has expandability written all over it. Compact Flash, SD Card, Memory Stick, Blue Tooth, USB 2.0 etc, etc. ING says; 'If Sony ever wants to add-on, it need not limit itself to one standard. And if you ever want to jam something into your PS3, chances are you'll be able to do so.' However, Xbox 360 having USB 2.0, it too can connect Bluetooth and multi-card readers. So I am not really sure here.

Anyway, apart from this, PS3 will also be familiar with the PSP which will mean cross-platform associations be possible. PS3 games can take full advantage of the little PlayStation Portable by offering un-lockable content and new multiplayer possibilities.

7. You can still Pre-Order. We have already discussed this before, didn't we? I mean waiting in endless queues for getting an Xbox 360. Sony says that this can be avoided by paying about 50 bucks or so as pre-order payment a few months in advance and when it is launched, just walk into the store of your choice, pay the remainder of the money and go home with your spanking new PS3. Smiles all the way that MS couldn't generate this time with its Xbox 360 launch!

6. 7-player Wireless support. IGN puts it this way - 'While being able to play with six of your buddies offline in addition to playing with a single system will only be appealing for a small number of genres, it can be especially important for sports games in particular. Being able to populate an NBA or NHL team entirely with human players is something that isn't possible on any system outside of the PlayStation line, and the PS3 will keep with this trend'. However, with Xbox 360 you will have Xbox Live. But IGN has a strong point here - it is a tremendous thing to be able to play a game with 6 friends in a single machine without going online.

5. The HD IP Camera. EyeToy works extremely well and is a fairly simple device. PS3 will see the release of the HD IP camera, the advanced version of EyeToy. The camera will feature a native HD resolution, allowing gamers to transmit crystal-clear images to the PS3 for online play and more and with the increased resolution and the PS3's processing power, the camera will allow for even more advanced, yet natural, input with the system. Besides being IP-based, the camera's functionality will tie directly into Internet use, allowing transmission feeds over the Intarweb easily.

4. Full Backwards Compatibility. Need we say more what this means? If true, it will be a killer. It is too good to be true, however we don't know yet. No one from Sony said anything about this. But going by the rumours and the criticism MS is facing over lack of backward compatibility, there's a fairly good chance that Sony would rather go with the public demand than do something as silly as MS did with Xbox 360.

3. Stronger Japanese Developer Support. Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Bandai, Atlus, Nippon Ichi, and Namco (among others) each offered unique content for Sony's system that can't be found anywhere else. Tekken, Final Fantasy, Ace Combat, Devil May Cry etc are examples of Sony-Jap Developer relationship. We fully agree with IGN here! The games will be of wide range and genres. Besides, there would be a bigger competition amongst these developers for newer, better games for PS3 than we can possibly imagine with MS's Xbox 360 game developers.

2. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. We already discussed about the lack of killer app in Xbox 360. Now, Metal Gear Solid 4 is one helluva killer app that we can't disagree with. IGN puts it like this - 'Game creator Hideo Kojima has shown time and time again that he knows how to craft an excellent videogame, and after witnessing the impressive real-time demonstration of Guns of the Patriots (and its accompanying trailer) at TGS this past September, we're already convinced that the PS3 will be capable of some amazing things. A great pedigree plus great technology?' Yea indeed mate!

1. Blu-Ray Player. To be honest, I am not sure if this will come out any soon in its final form., I mean sooner than the release of PS3. However, it is very exciting to imagine that with 50+ GB storage of content, it can really widen the possibilities of PS3. Besides it is also going to have much quicker transfer rate (the PS3's actual drive speed hasn't been announced yet) we can see much faster loading times. IGN says; 'It's sure to be one hell of a next-gen home video format. In short, the PlayStation 3 will have the most advanced storage medium of any game system on the planet' because Blu-ray Disc Association has garnered a huge amount of studio support that is surely going to be 'one hell of of a next-gen home video format'. HA HA HA!!!

Now it is for you to take the final decision whether you would like to still wait in the queue or split and walk towards your home waiting for the release of PS3. In my opinion, I would rather stay in the queue and split only when PS3 launch is announced if I am yet to get my Xbox 360. *heh*
