Hilton Garden Inn is turning to the miraculous power of gaming to bring about positive developments in its employees (and they said gaming could bring nothing other than sore thumbs). Ultimate Team Play – a PSP-title created by Virtual Heroes, Inc – has been commissioned to train Inn’s employees to serve customers better. Ultimate Team Play has an environment that replicates Hilton Garden Hotel using 3D graphics, asking players to perform tasks within deadlines. The aim of the game is to show players just how their actions will impact customers and consequently the hotel as their Satisfaction and Loyalty Tracking (SALT) scores change. The game is currently being beta-tested and the full version is expected at all Hilton Garden Inn locations in January 2009.

Adrian Kurre, senior vice president – brand management for Hilton Garden Inn, has this to say:

Ultimate Team Play is part of our ongoing commitment to making employee training compelling and relevant, which are our two most important criteria for ensuring long-term customer service success.

I wonder if the consequences of gaming during the working hours, when customers are waiting to be served, have been a due consideration while devising this training exercise. But hey employees won’t mind it one bit I’m sure.
