The UK is thoroughly enjoying blowing zombie brains out. That’s hardly surprising considering Resident Evil 5 is out and about. What’s surprising is that Resident Evil 5 is doing better than a lot of things that are out and about. For one, RE 5 sales are doing better than the movie. Hardly surprising eh? Well, surprise surprise, RE5 has outsold U2’s latest album in one weekend! That’s right Capcom’s game has outsold U2’s new album’s (No Line on the Horizon) total sales till date in one weekend. And to make things even more devastating, it grossed more than top 5 movies in the UK this weekend – combined! All this data is courtesy Capcom’s UK public relations company Monument PR. Their subtly titled press release “Game Dramatically Outsells Singles, Albums, Films - Games Now Most Popular Entertainment Medium in UK” puts forth these and some more facts in support. Okay, the game deserves its success. But calling Games as the most popular entertainment on the basis of a single, albeit great, weekend is surely jumping the gun a tad bit. We’ll hold off the verdicts until a game outsells Hugh Grant in the UK. That would be something truly extraordinary.
