They say experience is the father of wisdom. Well, if that’s the case then we’d do well to hang onto every word that comes out of David Reeves’ mouth. This outgoing Sony Europe president has gazed into the future and predicted that PS3 could be the market leader, no not today, not even tomorrow, but in three to five years. He has likened the consoles wars to “a tortoise and hare situation” and has sounded “optimistic” for PlayStation’s future in the PAL territories. Reeves is retiring from Sony having served for fifteen years, four of which he was at the top of Sony Europe as its CEO. He’s summed up his time at the helm as:

The lasting legacy is that I took Sony Computer Entertainment through the harder years but still managed to keep PlayStation as a very prominent brand in all PAL territories, both for PlayStation 2, PSP and PlayStation 3.
Reeves’ role will be taken over by Andrew house. And returning to the main point of discussion, Reeves’ optimism sounds rather exaggerated. Even if PS3 was to get to the top in the predicted 3-5 years, it will have a very limited time there. With an expected life of about ten years, the console may well have aged its way to obsolescence by the time its supremacy is established. Either way, we offer luck to David with his post-retirement life. Here’s his career at a glance.
