Resident Evil 5 (maybe) in 2008, maybe not

As the game developer Capcom declared its last fiscal year results, the announcement was a bit informative about company’s schedule for the ongoing fiscal year and next financial year that starts off April, 2008. I think all the people present there were more concerned about Capcom’s next title release chart, rather than company’s financial ups and downs, and some game ardent caught it right.

The press release reveals some tentative information about Capcom’s next iteration in the Resident Evil series named Resident Evil 5. The PR says that the game may see its release before this fiscal year i.e. March 2008, or maybe not.

Previously, the game was slated for launch in 2007, but was delayed until 2008 now I think the game is likely to see the third delay as the company looks timid on RE 5 release issue. Capcom is not keeping its words! Here’s what Capcom’s CEO, Kenzo Tsujimoto shared at the financial results for fiscal 2006 description:

In order to make Capcom more competitive, we will focus on further strengthening development of our core home video games business, marketing efforts and sales efforts. We plan to create a title portfolio that accurately reflects the global market share, as well as strengthen our R&D organization and staff. Our title lineup includes many new titles in our existing franchises over the next period, including 'Resident Evil 5'.

The quote of Tsujimoto very clearly defines that the RE5 doesn’t look approaching till this fiscal year end i.e. March 2008. Moreover, what I could interpret is that the game is not likely to come before March, 2009, because (I think) Capcom’s nest period does mean next financial year that starts from April 2009. So it would be better and short span to anticipate the announcement of release date of Devil May Cry 4 that would probably appear later this year.
