Resident Evil still set for Xbox 360/PS3 simultaneous release

A rumoured article from Playstation Lifestyle, hit the Capcom message boards, bearing possible information that Microsoft had asked Capcom (in exchange for money) to release Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360 a bit before the PS3 version was launched. To be more precise, they asked for a “timed release” of the game. However, Christian Svensson, Capcom's VP of strategic planning and business development, came in, notifying people that the rumours were completely false.

The assertion is false. RE5 is a multiplatform release that fits with our oft-stated crossplatform strategy,

He also confirmed the fact, in writing, that the games would be launched simultaneously.

for the avoidance of doubt ... simultaneous release.

Two points struck me here when I heard this news. The first point being the fact that, the Internet is a very powerful tool, where messages can be transmitted like wildfire once someone gets a hold of it. I’ve seen it happen time and time again (when GTA 4 was near release), when a small rumour would eventually make the front pages of many top sites.

Secondly, does this offer by Microsoft give any hint that the Xbox 360 may actually not be selling as well as they expected? Or is it just yet another way to boost its already growing image? From what I have been reading recently, I would think Microsoft is actually trying to get back sales for the 360. Many reports are coming in where the PS3 is now outselling the 360 by considerable amounts. This may be so because people are now unlocking the possible potentials of the PS3. Why Microsoft did it, well we will never really know, but I would want to think they are a bit scared of losing more market share to the PS3.
