Earlier, Sony lost a long-standing Grand Theft Auto franchise (PS3) as Microsoft acquired it for the Xbox360 for $50 million, but this doesn’t mean that Rockstar is no more loyal to Sony. Thanks to Rockstar for signing a new deal with Sony commencing an exclusive franchise for the PS3 that has been revealed by Michael Shorrock, SCEA’s 3rd party director, at official Playstation blog.
However, the write-up doesn’t reveal any detail about the new franchise, but confirmed that it’s not LA Noir that Rockstar announced last year.
Michael Shorrock Opines on new deal:
As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from Rockstar Studios.
The release date and genre of the title are still not leaked. Sony has stood behind its partnership with Rockstar in all bad/fair weather - whether be it GTA’s hot coffee scandal or Manhunt II controversy, unlike Nintendo, Sony has taken a bold stand to accept the games on its platforms, come what may.
After having faced a rally of controversies, I doubt, Rockstar’s forthcoming PS3 exclusive franchise will also fall prey to the hands of critics following its release consequently pushing it inside ludicrous (illogic) banning parameters.
However, EA thinks that by developing a lot of PS3 exclusives, it has backed a wrong horse (because Nintendo’s best-seller Wii gravitates EA towards it), but rising PS3 sales and its lasting appeal makes Rockstar’s convictions in PS3 even stronger.
